Correct Use and Maintenance of CO2 Incubator

November 10,2022

CO2 incubator has become an important tool for in vitro research and the production of cells. We have sorted out some cautions on the use of CO2 incubators, hoping to help you correctly standardize the use of it and improve experimental efficiency.

Before use

  1. The instrument shall be placed on a flat table, and the environment shall be clean, tidy, dry, and ventilated.

  1. Before using the instrument, each control switch shall be nonworking.

  1. Confirm that the CO2 used is pure and up to standard to avoid reducing the sensitivity of the CO2 sensor and shortening the service life of the CO2 filtering device.

  1. Do not adjust the inlet gas pressure to too high, and the maximum outlet pressure of the pressure-reducing valve shall not exceed 0.1 Mpa to avoid breaking the pipeline.

  1. After the CO2incubator is correctly installed, add an appropriate amount of sterile distilled water or sterile deionized water to the humidification tray in the incubator.

  1. It does not apply to the cultivation of substances containing volatile chemical solvents, low-concentration explosive gases, low ignition point gases, and toxic substances.

In use

  1. The incubator should be managed by a specially assigned person. After the parameters on the operation panel are confirmed, they should not be modified at will to avoid affecting the cell culture.

  1. Cell culture dishes/bottles in the incubator should be placed in a neat and orderly manner for easy searching. At the same time, the use efficiency of the incubator should be improved as much as possible. The person in charge can start or stop using the empty incubator according to the experimental situation to save resources.

  1. Clean your hands with alcohol before taking articles from the incubator.

  1. Try to shorten the time and times of opening the door, avoid air pollution in the laboratory. Reduce the fluctuation of the cultural environment in the laboratory.

  1. Frequently pay attention to the amount of sterile distilled water in the humidification tray in the box. Replace the sterile distilled water or sterile deionized water in the humidification tray regularly (at least once every two weeks) to maintain the relative humidity in the box and avoid evaporation of the culture solution. Note that the distilled water after high-pressure sterilization shall be cooled before being poured into the humidification tray.

  1. When the cylinder pressure is lower than 0.2MPa, the cylinder shall be replaced.

After use

  1. If it is not used for a long time, the moisture in the chamber must be removed before closing. The glass door must be opened for ventilation for 24 hours before closing. The CO2 switch shall be closed to prevent failure of the CO2 regulator.

  1. Avoid colliding with sensors and other components when cleaning the CO2 incubator studio.

  1. Before handling the CO2 incubator, take out the shelf and humidification tray in the studio to prevent the glass door from being damaged by collision.

  1. The incubator shall not be carried upside down, and the door must not be lifted to avoid deformation.
